Waterfalls

Waterfalls

Waterfalls have always been high up on many photographer's list of things to capture, especially in long exposure because it smooths out the waterfall so beautifully.

Golden Gullfoss

Golden Gullfoss

Gullfoss is one of the biggest highlights along the Golden Circle. Its name literally means "golden waterfall". I finally managed to get a shot of it showcasing that it can live up to its name.

Sjávarfoss

Sjávarfoss

A close-up of Sjávarfoss in Hvalfjörður, Iceland. It's a small waterfall but always worth a detour when you don't feel like driving through a tunnel.

Moody Aldeyjarfoss

Moody Aldeyjarfoss

Driving to Aldeyjarfoss on a foggy day like this is always a bit of a bet. You never know if the visibility will be so low that it's not worth photographing. But when it is...

Brúarfoss Close-Up

Brúarfoss Close-Up

Brúarfoss is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland - mainly because of the insanely vivid blue color of the water.

Ófærufoss

Ófærufoss

In the volcanic canyon of Eldgjá you can find this impressive waterfall called Ófærufoss (this is only the top part of it). There used to be a natural bridge over it but it has long since collapsed.

Gloomy Dettifoss

Gloomy Dettifoss

This is a long exposure close-up of the biggest European waterfall, called Dettifoss. It's hard to take photos there nowadays without hundreds of people in your shot so I decided to experiment a bit.

Axlarfoss

Axlarfoss

Axlarfoss is hidden away in a canyon in Fjallabak - only a short detour away from the road.

Frozen Dettifoss

Frozen Dettifoss

Dettifoss looks, like many places in Iceland, very different in Winter. The water turns from brown-colored to glacial blue. Put that next to the huge ice sheet that forms because of the spray and you get place that could be placed into some fantasy winter wonderland movie scene.

Aldeyjarfoss

Aldeyjarfoss

Aldeyjarfoss is the first waterfall you encounter when driving south from Goðafoss towards Sprengisandur. It's surrounded by basalt columns. For me it's one of the gems in the Icelandic Highlands.

Frozen Gullfoss

Frozen Gullfoss

The top part of Gullfoss, one of the highlights along the Golden Circle in Iceland, is just amazing. A combination of rapid flowing water together with walls of ice around it. It's most of the time closed off to the public but when it's not, this is what you can see.

Dynjandi Spectator

Dynjandi Spectator

The mighty Fjallfoss, or better known to the public as Dynjandi, towering above its spectator. This gem is located in the West Fjords and is by itself the reason why you should consider a detour on your Ring Road travels. Sure, it takes a bit of time but this one just takes your breath away.

Bruarfoss Wide-Angle

Bruarfoss Wide-Angle

In this photograph you can clearly see the glacial blue color of the river on which Brúarfoss is located. It's a bit of a hidden waterfall as it is not marked by any signs but when you find it, it's all the more rewarding.

Dettifoss Long Exposure

Dettifoss Long Exposure

A long exposure shot at Dettifoss, the biggest European waterfall. The light was perfect when we arrived there and the long exposure made a beautiful cloud out of the spray coming from the waterfall.

Dynjandi

Dynjandi

The Dynjandi waterfalls in the West Fjords are quite impressive. Not only are there many different waterfalls on the way down, you can also get incredibly close to them.

Foss á Síðu

Foss á Síðu

Foss á Síðu is a tiny waterfall located along the Ring Road in the South. The beauty of it is that when you take a long exposure of it, it's incredibly detailed.

Gljúfrabúi

Seljalandsfoss Reflection

Seljalandsfoss Reflection

A not-so-usual perspective of Seljalandsfoss. I really love photographing reflections. It gives photographs that little bit extra.

Hvítserkur Waterfall

Hvítserkur Waterfall

A tiny waterfall near Hvítserkur, North Iceland. I really like the combination of the red rocks and the dripping icicles at this place.

Hlauptungufoss

Hlauptungufoss

Hlauptungufoss is one of the lesser known waterfalls close to Brúarárfoss. It's quite hard to find if you decide not to walk the long way to Brúarárfoss.

Gufufoss

Gufufoss

Gufufoss is located along the road down to Seyðisfjörður in East Iceland. It looks very different depending on the season because it's very dependant on the amount of meltwater coming down into the valley.

Gullfoss Painting

Gullfoss Painting

Sometimes you just need to let Mother Nature do its thing. This long exposure close-up of Gullfoss is just the water painting the capture.

Hengifoss

Hengifoss

This waterfall in East Iceland is about a 2,5 kilometer hike from the road straight up a mountain. However this waterfall is a beauty and definitely worth the time and effort hiking up the mountainside.

Gýjarfoss Near Kerlingarfjöll

Me enjoying the view on Gýjarfoss, a waterfall located on the way to Kerlingarfjöll.

Háifoss

Háifoss

This amazing waterfall is called Háifoss and is approximately 122 meters high. It's hidden away in a canyon in the highlands. Have you been up there?⠀

Frozen Urriðafoss

Frozen Urriðafoss

Urriðafoss is definitely an underrated waterfall. It's only 2 kilometers away from the Ring Road in Iceland but most people don't stop there. I think it's especially beautiful during winter time when this wide waterfall partially freezes over.

Eastern Waterfall

Eastern Waterfall

his is one of the many beautiful waterfalls you can encounter when going on a hike in Seyðisfjörður. I've always felt that the eastern part of Iceland is a little bit of an unknown gem.

Hvítserkur Red Fall

Frozen Góðafoss

Frozen Góðafoss

Goðafoss is considered by many to be the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland. When it's partially frozen over in winter it just looks stunning beyond comparison.

Kirkjufellsfoss

The beautiful Kirkjufell mountain in the western part of Iceland with its little brother in the front of the shot: Kirkjufellsfoss.

Frozen Kvernufoss

Frozen Kvernufoss

Hidden away next to one of the biggest highlights of the Icelandic south coast you can find Kvernufoss. It's barely visible from the road.⠀

Winter Seljalandsfoss

One of the highlights on the south coast, Seljalandsfoss, with its winter jacket on and from a different angle.

Skógafoss Long Exposure

Skógafoss Long Exposure

One of the highlights along the south coast of Iceland has to be Skógafoss. This huge waterfall is hard to visit without people in the shot but when you go early enough, it's doable!

Seyðisfjörður Waterfalls

Seyðisfjörður Waterfalls

Seyðisfjörður is one of the most beautiful fjords in the East. There are a number of waterfalls along the way down to the town, only reachable on foot. Definitely worth the hike.

Urriðafoss Sunrise

Urriðafoss Sunrise

This was taken at Urriðafoss - a waterfall most people skip when driving along the Ring Road. I love the layers and the shapes of the ice in the river and on the waterfall. The yellow glow is coming from the first sun rays of the day hitting the ice.

Hraunfossar is one of those waterfalls that is beautiful in every season.

Frozen Stjórnafoss

Frozen Stjórnafoss
